With just two months to practice, professional and amateur golfers from across the UK are preparing to tee up at the second annual Oceânico Group Pro–Am Challenge at the Marriott Worsley Park, Manchester, from 29 May – 1 June 2008.
Won last year by Ross McGowan, the Oceânico Group Pro–Am Challenge is the only event of its kind on the European Challenge Tour schedule and is now one of the biggest golf events in the North of England, with free entry to members of the public.
Organised by Cheshire–based sports promoter ISM, which works with top golfers such as Darren Clarke and Ernie Els, and sponsored by Portugal’s leading golf and property specialist the Oceânico Group, the Pro-Am combines world-class golf with competitive amateur club players.
The four–day event offers spectators the chance to watch the European Challenge Tour professionals in action over the first two days, followed by two weekend rounds played as a Pro–Am, where each professional pairs up with an amateur, offering them the chance to tee up alongside some of golf’s young up and coming stars, as well as a few established names.
Oceânico Group Director Simon Burgess commented: "This is a fantastic golf event, showcasing some of the best golfing talent from the European Challenge Tour. Last year’s event saw over 50 amateur players given the chance to play alongside the pros, putting their skills to the test and providing plenty of entertainment for the golf loving spectators who came to support them. Oceânico is delighted to be associated with such a unique event in the golfing calendar, and we will have details of our latest property developments on show to give a taste of Portugal and its golf courses."
ISM’s Managing Director Andrew ‘Chubby’ Chandler, a former European Tour professional, added: "This tournament continues to grow in stature and attracts the world’s best young golfers to the region. This is the only event of its kind on the European Challenge Tour Schedule, giving weekend golfers the chance to have some real fun and compare their own games to that of the pros. It’s also a great day out and a chance for local people to come and show their support to all involved, and maybe even spot a star of the future."
Entry to watch the event is free, giving everyone the chance to watch up close some of Europe’s up and coming stars whilst being able to visit Oceânico’s showcase of luxury property developments and golf courses in Portugal – just to add a taste of sunshine in case the British weather lets us down.
