Royal Óbidos SPA & Golf Resort

Silver Coast Property

Royal Óbidos Spa & Golf resort is located on Portugal's glittering Silver Coast, 45 miles north of Lisbon.

Situated on a 336 acre site close to the medieval town of Óbidos, this exciting new development will include luxury apartments and villas set alongside a fantastic 18 hole championship golf course designed by Severiano Ballesteros.

The Royal Óbidos Spa & Golf resort project is a joint venture between the groups Oceânico Developments and MSF Turim.

The joint venture between these two organizations is the result of a longstanding relationship that started with Oceânico Developments first project in Portugal, Jardim da Meia Praia, in 2001.

Since then, the commercial relationship between the two has extended to other projects in the Algarve, notably Vila Baia, Belmar & Amendoeira Golf Resort.

The Royal Óbidos Spa & Golf resort is the first joint development between the two groups where Oceânico Developments adds the strength of its quality brand as well as its proven commercial capacity, whilst MSF Turim, one of the main construction companies operating in Portugal, places all of its experience into guaranteeing the high quality of the development (such as Marina de Lagos resort).

Royal Óbidos Spa & Golf Resort is superbly located in a region blessed with UNESCO World Heritage sites, national monuments, and an Atlantic coastal area of breathtaking natural beauty to complement the man-made works of art that together make the region a jaw-dropping destination for travellers.

Residential Complex

Royal Óbidos Spa & Golf Resort is a 336 acre eco-friendly development with magnificently appointed properties which comprise a mix of 2 and 3 bedroom apartments with communal pools and 3 and 4 bedroom villas with private pools.

The beautiful and original resort architecture features contemporary designs using natural, traditional materials in the finishings, such as wood and stone.

The residences will be set around a stunning 18-hole Seve Ballesteros-designed championship golf course, and will be strategically placed to take full advantage of the beautiful location and the breathtaking sea views. Creatively and sympathetically situated to blend in with the wonderful pines and heather of the area, the residential villages feature streams, bridges, water features, courtyards, archways, cool piazzas, cycle paths, sculpture gardens and abundant greenery.

The resort will also feature a five star condominium hotel and spa with one-bedroom studio suites and two-bedroom lock off apartments.

Royal Óbidos Golf Course

Seve Ballesteros, designer of the golf course at Royal Óbidos Spa & Golf Resort, promises golfers and investors "a great and wonderful place" here on Portugal's Silver Coast.

The course layout spanning 6400m (+ 7100 yards), will represent a true test of golf for players of all levels.

The first hole, a difficult right handed dogleg, heads north, setting up a spectacular combination of holes overlooking the lagoon (Lagoa de Óbidos).

The feature hole of the front nine is the 5th, an exciting 520m par 5, with a final approach into a large undulating green surrounded on three sides by water.

The second nine holes lie in the central and southern section of the development. Six of the holes meander between an intricate ecosystem of lakes interconnected by cascading streams.

The highlight of the back nine is the 12th, a 420m par 4 where the golfer has to negotiate both the drive and the second shot between and over two lakes and the curving stream.

The clubhouse, sumptuously appointed with restaurant, spike bar and pro shop, is ideally located and overlooks no fewer than nine of the 18 holes. Sitting out on the generous terrace, owners and visitors to Royal Óbidos will enjoy spectacular views of the golf course, the cascading lakes and streams, with the Atlantic Ocean "and some truly wonderful sunsets" in the background.

Location - Óbidos and the Silver Coast

The historic town of Óbidos, whose name stems from the Latin for citadel, is one of the most beautiful towns in Portugal, and can be found 15km (9 miles) from the new resort. The town itself is dominated by the Manueline-style Óbidos castle, as well as ancient defensive walls which encircle narrow cobbled streets, lined with whitewashed, bougainvillaea-draped houses. An important medieval fishing and trading port, Óbidos was in 1282 AD, given as a wedding gift by the King of Portugal Don Dinis to his new wife Dona Isabel. The town is also a kilometre north of the ruins of a Roman town, Beleza Moreira.

Close by you will also find the stunning Lagoa de Óbidos, the largest lagoon in Portugal and a renowned water sports centre.

Óbidos lies just a short drive north of Lisbon. Direct flights to Lisbon from the UK, Ireland and the United States, plus a reliable road and rail network around the capital, make this an easily reachable area for investors and golfers looking for pastures new.

The surrounding area is stunning too. Picturesque Cascais is a cosmopolitan suburb of Lisbon with superb sandy beaches and amazing cuisine, whilst the UNESCO World Heritage site of Sintra gives visitors access to the perfect mix of traditional Portuguese village charms and history and the urbane allure of Portugal's capital city.

In addition, close by you will find the village of Baleal known for its water sports and the traditional town of Peniche, famed for its seafood specialities.
